Our Rendezvous on the Hotel Des Artistes Rooftop
Mon, Feb 15, 2010

My man Andrew is a sucker for live music anywhere, anytime so when we stumbled upon a place with live music AND a view the deal was done.
Entering the unashamedly glamorous Hotel des Artistes through a fountain-bordered staircase, you know you’re in for a treat, but you have NO idea the gravity of the situation until you step off that elevator and into… heaven.
With a view that could quite literally break your heart, the rooftop terrace is one of the most stunning spots I’ve ever enjoyed an overpriced beverage. The in-your-face luxury of this bar allows you slip into a world usually reserved for couples with names like Brangelina or TomKat – if just for a few hours on a sunny afternoon in Punta de Mita.
This rooftop hot spot boasts an OC worthy infinity pool, 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean, an island style bar and a bartender who doesn’t go soft on the hard stuff. Its the perfect place to relax, unwind, enjoy a drink (or three) and soak up the sheer beauty that is the Mexican coastline.
We opted to hit the bar around 6pm and between the view, the dwindling sun, the strong Malibu and Coke, I fell quickly and deeply in love. Boys, if you are looking for a first date, proposal or grovelling spot then this place should make your short list hands down!
When 7:30pm came along a band assembled on the pool deck and continued to serenade us for the rest of the evening with classical Mexican music. In addition, a sight you don’t often see, a painter was doing a live work of art before our very eyes – although I must admit the saying “it’s like watching paint dry” did come to mind after the first 10 minutes or so.
After a week of $1.50 Coronas at cheap local bars, your drink tab might give you a bit of a fright (thankfully we were feeling rather relaxed by that part of the evening) but the experience was well worth a few less pesos in our pocket the next morning.
The view alone would make this place a must-see when visiting Punta de Mita but add great drinks, an infinity pool and live entertainment to the mix and its basically a case of do it or if you are stupid enough to skip it then lie and tell me you did.
Practical Info
Location:
Hotel Des Artistes rooftop
Avenide El Anclote #5
Punta de Mita, Nayarit
Telephone:
(329) 291-5005
Website:

Getting There:
If you’re traveling by bus catch an ATM bus with Punta Mita on the windscreen and the driver will drop you off at the main Punta Mita stop. From there simply stroll down the road towards the beach until you meet Avenide El Anclote. The bus ride will only cost about 24 pesos per person and its an easy ride up the coast.
Alternatively, you can ask a taxi driver to take you there but this is definitely a more expensive
option, especially if you’re traveling from Puerto Vallarta. I recommend you bite the bullet and
ride the bus, Mexico style.
