This beautiful, albeit windy, city was our first destination on a 3 week adventure (Kiwi style) and we’d decided to go cheap and do the “hostel” schebang for the first time!

We weren’t ready for a real “roughing it” experience so we were looking for a private room, reasonable price and a great downtown location. After researching a few tourist websites we settled on Nomads Capital Wellington and booked it!

We were very pleasantly surprised by our experience so I’ve put together a bit of a review for you about our Nomads Capital stay!

Nomads Capital Wellington promises top quality budget accommodation and they didn’t disappoint. We were a bit skeptical about staying in a “hostel” but we had absolutely nothing to worry about…

The Location

Nomads Capital is located on the bustling Wakefield Street right in the heart of downtown Wellington. It’s just a short walk from the hostel to the waterfront, the famous Te Papa museum and the lively windy city nightlife.

The location was absolutely perfect for all the touristy activities we wanted to do and there are many public transport options available within steps.

We had a rental car so parking was a bit of a concern.  There is paid parking available on the street however from what I can remember there is a time limit on that, however, there are also several affordable car parks nearby. We ended up parking the car overnight in a lot a few blocks away for about $15 (very reasonable for a big city).

The Room

We opted for a private room with ensuite – call me snooty but I just can’t handle shared bathrooms. Our room was REALLY nice, we were so surprised when we walked in. The room was very modernly furnished, spotlessly clean and really roomy. We had a comfy queen-sized bed, TV,  great view and a bathroom with shower and toilet.

The ONLY negative thing I’d say about the room was that we were obviously pretty close to a nearby nightclub and when the clock struck 10pm the music started pumping! It wasn’t unbearable but it definitely was noticeable. Luckily we were tired from the flight and day of sight seeing so we slept well regardless.

All the rooms come with clean linen, a safe and a security swipe card.

The Facilities

Everyone at Nomads Capital is really friends and they have a range of different services you can utilize if you choose.

In the roomy lobby you’ll find computers with internet access you can use for a small fee – the internet speed was great and allowed us to do a quick email check when we touched down.

Through the back of the lobby there’s a great lounge room with TV for guests – this is an awesome place to meet  fellow travelers and maybe even a potential drinking buddy for that evening

The Moolah

One of the main reasons we picked Nomads Capital in the first place was the affordable price. Given the location and the proximity to all the touristy things we wanted to see it didn’t take much convincing!

The rates vary depending on what sort of room you want but we paid approximately $80 for the private room with ensuite that we stayed in (including taxes). The dorm rooms range from just $22 to $31 per night so even if you’re on a super tight budget you should find something for you!

The Verdict

Andrew and I are happy to recommend Nomads Capital to anybody looking for budget accommodation in Wellington, New Zealand.

The people are friendly, the rooms are clean, the price is great, the location is superb – you basically can’t go wrong!
